Anxiety – The Link with Negative Thinking

Anxiety can be caused by numerous factors – some external and some internal.  Anxiety is your own response to those issues and whilst uncomfortable and, at times debilitating, it can be an important indicator of what you need to change in your life.

Negative thinking is a breeding ground for anxiety – stop now and think about the last time you complained about something.  How did it make you feel?  Your answer might be relief in that you felt justified in complaining -  under your breath or out loud.  However, complaining brings about a negative energy that is debilitating in itself.  It becomes the breeding ground for hostility, anxiety and despair.

Try something new.  When you feel yourself beginning to complain, stop and instead say how you would like things to be.  For example, instead of ‘My neighbour is so unhelpful’, say ‘I have neighbours who are helpful and supportive’. You will be amazed at how uplifted you  begin to feel and ironically you will attract more positive things into your life.

In short,  Don’t rent space in your mind to Negativity!
