Christmas – holiday or time of anxiety?
Christmas is now on the agenda as retail outlets implore us to prepare for the festive season. Already we witness the building frenzy of activity as people feel the pressure of family and friends who have expectations of what they want Christmas to be about.
If you find yourself using words like ’should, ought or must’ at this time, stop and identify the myths and unquestioned assumptions underpinning your beliefs. Are they yours or taken on from others? End of year celebrations offer an opportunity for a holiday and time of reflection. However, they are often fraught with anxiety.
Anxiety often increases at this time. Partly because of external commitments but also because of the reminder that the year is ending and are you living the life you want to live? Addressing this question is the best gift you can give to yourself and others.
