Thanks for the communication skills at workplace. I remember the schooling days when my tutor used to teach us the basic communication and workplace skills. Which covered the same things as you have said here like trust building, control emotions, information challenging etc.
You touch on some core communication issues here Clare. I think the ability to be able to ‘hold onto yourself’ is essential to be able to carry out conversations in the workplace that are effective, particularly when under stress or there are many differing opinions.
I agree that attending to the anxiety of the person is the first place to start. Once we can feel we can manage our anxiety response, we are then able to respond more fully, which includes reflecting on the message, as you suggest.
